Dr John Barker | BSc MBBS MRCOG

Consultant Obstetrician / Gynaecologist and Medical Director

Dr John Barker is a Consultant in the UK and is currently a Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist and Director at JRB Medical Centre.  With an unwavering commitment to patient-centred care, he advocates for a multidisciplinary approach to address complex gynaecological issues

He has completed his Postgraduate Training in the UK via the Mersey Deanery Rotation (Liverpool) and has completed Advanced Training Skills Modules in Gynaecological Oncology, Benign Abdominal Surgery, Colposcopy and Advanced Labour Ward Practice.

He is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.  Surgical Interests include Advanced Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy techniques.

Dr Barker is actively involved in medical education and training. He serves as an OSCE examiner at the University of Liverpool and is an instructor on the Managing Obstetric Emergency and Trauma course in the UK. Throughout his training, he gained valuable experience working in seven different hospitals in the UK, including Liverpool Women Hospital, which is the largest stand-alone Women’s Hospital in Europe. This tertiary hospital has a delivery suite with a high delivery rate of 9000 per annum and offers specialized areas of obstetrics and gynaecology.

Dr Barker was pivotal in establishing and setting up The Regional Endometriosis Centre, located in Barbados.  He works collaboratively with specialist multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care for deep infiltrating endometriosis cases.

Dr Barker has spearheaded the development of several innovative services in Barbados and the region, including a One Stop Post-Menopausal Bleeding clinic, an Outpatient Hysteroscopic Service, and a Gynaecological Oncology diagnostic and triage service. Through his expertise and dedication, Dr Barker endeavours to deliver world-class tertiary care to local patients and regional patients, ensuring optimal health outcomes.

Dr Cortney M Yarbrough | MD FACOG

Obstetrician / Gynaecologist / Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecologist

Dr Cortney M Yarbrough is a renowned board-certified Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at our practice. She completed her medical training at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, and her residency training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr Yarbrough further honed her expertise by completing a fellowship in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology at the prestigious Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

With her specialized knowledge, Dr Yarbrough focuses on providing comprehensive care and evaluation for the unique gynaecological needs of both young girls and adult women of all ages. She is passionate about educating her patients on STI prevention, safe sex practices, and the importance of the HPV vaccine. Dr Yarbrough also excels in managing early pregnancies and their complications, as well as addressing various gynaecological conditions that can occur throughout a woman’s life, such as abnormal menses, dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, fibroids, and menopausal symptoms.

Dr Yarbrough is deeply committed and actively involved in teaching and counselling patients about their gynaecological health, starting from an early age.  She generously shares her knowledge and expertise by conducting seminars on various topics for patients, parents, and other professionals. Through these educational initiatives, Dr Yarbrough strives to empower individuals and equip them with the necessary information to allow them to make informed decisions about their healthcare and to adopt healthy lifestyle choices that impact positively on their present and future well-being.

Brenda Roach | BSc MSc MBPsS

Counselling Psychologist

Brenda Roach is a highly qualified and registered Counselling Psychologist at our centre. She holds a master’s degree in counselling psychology from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. Brenda has also acquired certifications in Online and Telephone Counselling from The National Counselling Society through Counselling Tutor, as well as Psychological First Aid from the renowned Johns Hopkins University through Coursera.

With her expertise, Brenda specialises in helping clients navigate through grief and loss. This encompasses a wide range of experiences, such as the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship due to illness or breakup, financial instability, loss of identity, and disenfranchised losses like miscarriage or infertility. These types of losses are often hidden and not immediately visible. Drawing from her personal experiences of overcoming life-altering losses and utilising evidence-based interventions that are practical and clinically tested, Brenda equips her patients and clients with the necessary tools to heal and move forward.

In addition to her work in grief and loss, Brenda offers counselling services in the areas of trauma, addiction, and various behavioural issues, including anxiety and self-esteem. She is also an accomplished author, having written books such as “Reflecting and Journaling Towards a Meaningful Life,” a guided journal titled “A Simple Guide to Daily Journaling,” and 6-month gratitude journals. With her compassionate approach and extensive expertise, Brenda is dedicated to assisting individuals in achieving emotional well-being and leading fulfilling lives. At our centre, Brenda Roach brings invaluable insights and a wealth of knowledge to support our patients and her clients on their journey towards healing and personal growth.
